Our training solutions can help you overcome this challenge with a comprehensive set of tools, including operator, pedestrian and technician training, that can be tailored to met the specific needs of your workforce and assist with compliance of government standards.

OSHA Forklift Certification Process

The Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) requires that all operators of industrial lift trucks be trained and certified in the use of their equipment before being permitted to operate it as part of their job. The certification process can be grouped into three major categories:

  • Formal Lecture

Background information, such as equipment type, workplace hazards, and general safety requirements, is delivered through an in-person or web-based training course.
  • Practical Demonstration

Practical exercises are completed as the operator is on the forklift while the trainer provides hands-on instruction.
  • Operator Evaluation

Trainer will assess how well the forklift operator performs in a variety of applications and situations related to his or her workplace.

Once the initial certification is completed, employers are required to train and evaluate all of their forklift operators at least once every three years. A training course can also be administrated at any time for individual operators if he or she does not meet the performance standards.
